Welcome to The Norseman Temple Bar
Beer, Whiskey, Food, Music
These four words pretty much sum up what we are about. We are whiskey and craft beer house that prides itself on our quality offerings. Quality is our priority and this transfers through into our food, service and live entertainment. Only the best for our customers!
We have recently undergone a bit of a change! We took a step back into our history and changed the bar name back to The Norseman.
For those who are not in the know we were called Farringtons after a character in James Joyce’s Dubliners who was partial to an auld tipple or 2.
We are the oldest pub in Temple Bar and wanted to move into the future with a strong sense of our historic standing as a real local pub in Temple Bar even before it was Temple Bar as you know it!

A little bit of did you know about The Norseman through the years?
- The Norseman building as a watering hole dates back to the 1500’s when it was known as the Wooden Man Tavern due to a wooden Viking figure on the corner of the street.
- We are The Norseman Temple Bar 1696 as this was the year the premises was First Licenced!
- James Monks owned the establishment in the 1840s. James bonded whiskey for Jameson and we have an original label sent by his great great granddaughter. We still take pride in working with local distillers including Dublin’s own distillery Teeling.
- The pub originally took the name The Norseman as a nod to the Wooden Man Viking in our own history and the local Viking history from the discovery in the 70’s of Viking ships and artefacts on Wood quay.
